Recovering From Gallbladder Surgery Food: Start with clear liquids, then add bland foods like toast and rice. Avoid greasy or fried meals for the first week. Activity: Walk a little each day. Do not lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for 2 weeks. Your incisions: Keep them clean and dry. You may shower after 48 hours. Call your doctor right away if you have: a fever over 101 F, redness or pus near a cut, or pain that gets worse instead of better.
